The Spread of Verizonmath

Not only is the Verizonmath phenomenon on YouTube, but now you can also find it at ytmnd and even Wikipedia! It has spread through the world of blogs like wildfire. George's Coverage list is growing daily. I'm curious if and when it will hit the mainstream media.

You may find Mr. Munroe's payment to Verizon amusing, as well.

Verizon Dollars and Cents

Let’s talk dollars and cents.

Literally.

It seems Verizon employees don’t understand the difference between dollars and cents. When George was quoted a rate of “.002 CENTS per KB” he was actually charged “.002 DOLLARS per KB”. For those of you who may be unsure, .002 dollars is 100 times more than .002 cents (because there are 100 cents in a dollar). George, very patiently, called and tried to explain the problem. This is what happened ....

Anybody here not a mathematician? Ok, here’s the math:

35,893 KB
x .002cents
71.786cents

35,893 KB
x .002dollars
71.786dollars

71.786 cents = $0.71786 or $0.72
71.786 dollars = $71.786 or $71.79

Dear Verizon,

There’s a rather large difference between $0.72 and $71.79!
